A potential agreement aimed at averting a strike seeks to tackle issues surrounding player health and working conditions, according to the Professional Hockey Players’ Association (PHPA).

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Icemen’s future hangs in the balance amid ongoing negotiations.

The deadline looms on Friday, December 26, marking the culmination of a year-long dispute between the PHPA and the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) over player health standards.

The PHPA has set this deadline, pushing for a resolution on key concerns regarding player welfare and working conditions. Should an agreement fail to materialize, the association has warned of a potential strike.

In a recent statement, the ECHL expressed its desire to prevent a strike, revealing that they have extended what they describe as their “last, best, and final offer.”

“The union continues to misrepresent our proposals and our offer, while insisting on extreme demands that hinder our ability to finalize a deal,” stated the ECHL. “Our proposal aims to benefit players while ensuring the viability of our teams and league, thereby maintaining an entertaining and affordable experience for fans and maximizing competitive opportunities for our talented players.”

First Coast News has asked the PHPA for a comment; however, as of the time of publishing, we have not heard back.

As it stands, the Icemen’s matchup against the Orlando Solar Bears is still slated for 7.pm. Friday night at Vystar Memorial Arena.
