Pennsylvania Mom Stabs Adult Daughter to Death, Tells Cops She ‘Should Have Stabbed Myself First’

In a tragic turn of events, a Pennsylvania woman faces murder charges following the stabbing death of her 23-year-old daughter. The incident has left a community in shock as the details continue to unfold.

Diane Grovola, 57, is accused of not only taking her daughter’s life but also attacking the family dog and then turning the knife on herself, according to a report from the Delco Daily Times.

The distressing scene was discovered early Tuesday morning in Upper Darby Township. Police were alerted around 6:30 a.m. when Diane’s husband, John Grovola, returned home from his shift at UPS. Upon arrival, he was greeted by the family dog, bleeding, and then his wife, who sat on the living room couch clutching a knife. She chillingly confessed, “I stabbed our daughter.”

Rushing to his daughter’s bedroom, John Grovola found her lying on her back, unresponsive, with her eyes open. In a state of shock, he quickly returned to the living room to contact emergency services. During the call, Diane expressed a desire to end her own life and began inflicting wounds on herself.

The 911 dispatcher advised John to leave the premises immediately. As he exited, he witnessed his wife discarding the knife and stripping off her clothes. The sounds of her destruction echoed from the kitchen until authorities arrived.

When police entered the residence, they discovered Diane Grovola in a disturbing state: naked, bloodied, and with superficial cuts marring her body. She resisted arrest, prompting officers to restrain her with force.

“Sorry, I should have stabbed myself first,” she told officers, according to the complaint against her.

The daughter, Daniele Grovola, suffered cuts to her face, chest, legs, and back and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The dog was taken to a veterinarian for treatment.

After obtaining a search warrant, police found a large, black-handled knife stuck in the living room wall with apparent blood on it.

The dog was transported to a veterinarian facility where it was treated for its injuries.

Diane Grovola was charged with criminal homicide, first- and third-degree murder, possession of an instrument of crime, and aggravated cruelty to animals.

She was denied bond.
