United Airlines passenger in 'simulation' slugs flight attendant in face

A chaotic scene unfolded aboard a United Airlines flight when a passenger, seemingly disconnected from reality, disrupted the journey to Salt Lake City, claiming he was trapped in a “simulation.” The incident forced the plane to alter its course mid-flight. The passenger in question, 25-year-old Jordan Langston, reportedly caused a commotion shortly after the plane left Dulles International Airport in Washington, DC, according to the Lincoln Journal Star.

Langston’s erratic behavior began when he abruptly left his seat, storming towards the front of the aircraft while flailing his arms and shouting, “This is a simulation.” When confronted by a flight attendant seeking clarification, Langston insisted, “This flight,” before making his way to the back of the plane, continuing to gesture wildly.

In the ensuing chaos, he reportedly stepped on a crew member’s foot and pushed another even after being cautioned that his behavior could force the airplane to return to its point of origin. FBI Special Agent Patrick Manion shared these details with the media.

Despite the disturbance, the captain decided to proceed to Salt Lake City, declaring a Level 2 security threat as Langston eventually returned to his seat and momentarily calmed down. However, tranquility was short-lived.

Roughly 30 minutes later, Langston once again left his seat, engaging in bizarre shadow boxing in the aisle. It was during this episode that he allegedly struck a flight attendant in the face, escalating the already tense situation and highlighting the challenges faced by airline crews in managing such unpredictable incidents.

But mayhem erupted about 30 minutes later when Langston rose from his seat and chaotically flailed about before shadow boxing in the aisle and allegedly slugging a crew member in the face, Manion said.

Four passengers grabbed Langston and dragged him to the back of the plane, where he was restrained, placed in handcuffs, and bizarrely ranted about death, according to court documents, per the outlet.

The flight diverted to Eppley Airfield in Omaha, where Langston was escorted off the plane and detained at Douglas County jail. The flight then continued on to Salt Lake City International Airport.

Langston was charged with interference with flight crew members and attendants, the outlet reported.

He was ordered to remain behind bars pending trial, with a judge citing substance abuse and potential mental health issues.
