Reports: Shooter, Police Officer Dead After Shooting Near Emory University Campus and CDC in Atlanta

A 24-year-old woman from California has been taken into custody following the discovery of her 15-month-old daughter with severe injuries in a Santa Monica apartment, reportedly involving a frying pan.

The Santa Monica Police Department has not disclosed specific details about the injuries, stating that the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner will establish the cause and manner of the child’s death, according to a report from KABC.

Carmen Anita Degregg was initially apprehended by UCLA campus police. They reached out to the Santa Monica police after Degregg made concerning remarks about harming her toddler and leaving her in a Santa Monica apartment. Officers arrived at the location and found the child, who was then transported to a local hospital but sadly pronounced dead.

Degregg is currently held on a $2 million bond, awaiting a court appearance scheduled for Thursday. Although jail records confirm that she is facing felony charges, they do not detail the specific allegations against her.

The investigation is still active, as stated by the Santa Monica Police Department.
