In an unsettling incident in Indiana, a young man faces charges after allegedly shooting another during a dispute over money intended for his child’s Christmas. This altercation, authorities report, stemmed from disagreements on how the money should be used.

The accused, 22-year-old Keymaree Fagin, is charged with murder, pointing a firearm at another person, and carrying a handgun unlawfully due to a prior felony conviction. These charges, detailed in court records reviewed by Law&Crime, were filed in Marion County Superior Court earlier this week.

The events unfolded on December 23, when 21-year-old Logan Newman was driving in Indianapolis with a woman in the passenger seat and another man in the back. Authorities say the backseat passenger suggested they stop for a drink with his friend, Fagin.

Upon picking up Fagin at his residence, he allegedly began flaunting a gun, claiming it was stolen, as reported by local NBC affiliate WTHR, based on the woman’s testimony. Their next stop was Walmart to purchase alcohol, before heading to a park on Blooming Grove Drive in Camby, a short distance from the city.

While at the park, Fagin allegedly phoned a friend in jail, expressing plans to use his child’s Christmas money to contribute to the friend’s commissary fund. The woman recounted that Fagin even hinted he might end up in jail with the friend, though his meaning was ambiguous.

The conversation soon turned tense when Newman and the woman voiced their objections to Fagin’s intended use of the Christmas funds. Newman reportedly criticized the plan, prompting Fagin to become defensive, accusing Newman of disparaging remarks about his child. The situation escalated tragically, leading to the fatal shooting.

An argument broke out, and Fagin “became more agitated, grunting and huffing,” per WTHR, ejecting and reinserting bullets into his gun. Inside the car, the suspect allegedly began to point the gun at Newman’s head, and Newman suggested they fight outside of the vehicle.

“No, I’m going to shoot you,” Fagin reportedly replied, proceeding to put the gun to Newman’s head and shoot him multiple times.

The victim slumped over the car’s dashboard — his foot still on the gas — and crashed into the fencing around a nearby tennis court, the witness said. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department reported being at the scene of a homicide investigation at about 12:50 p.m. that day, searching for a suspect.

Nine minutes later, police announced they had detained someone. Newman was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to local Fox and CBS affiliate WXIN, surveillance cameras captured the gunfire coming from inside the vehicle and then the suspect running from the car after the crash. Once he was arrested, Fagin allegedly admitted to having had an argument with Newman, though he claimed someone outside the car fired the shots.

Fagin has a jury trial scheduled for March 23, 2026.

An obituary for Newman states that, along with his fiancee, he was expecting his first child in July 2026.
