A retired couple from Queensland‘s south-east are $1 million richer after hitting the jackpot on the division one ‘Weekday Windfall’ lotto after purchasing their second-ever ticket.

The excitement was palpable as a couple from Burpengary discovered they were among the four division one winners from last night’s lottery draw. The great-grandparents, Francis and Nick, were left in disbelief when their numbers matched the winning combination.

“He just said come and check it, so we did. You’ve gotta be mistaken; there’s no way,” recounted Francis, still reeling from the shock of their newfound fortune.

The Lott had earlier sent out a call for the mystery winners to reveal themselves, prompting 9News cameras to capture the moment when Francis and Nick walked into their local newsagency. The couple was still processing the news as they arrived at Burpengary Central News, where owner Prakash Valia could sense their excitement.

“It’s unbelievable. You can see the nervousness and feeling,” Valia observed, adding with a chuckle, “I had to turn the fan on for her.”

The couple had only played the Weekday Windfall game once before purchasing last night’s million-dollar ticket.

Francis bought the ticket after making a small fortune on her very first entry.

“I got fourteen bucks, didn’t I? $14 on it,” Francis told 9News.

“I said ‘oh, I’ll just have another one’.”

Andrea Rutledge sold Francis the winning ticket on Tuesday and was thrilled to have helped the couple.

“It’s good to know that someone’s going to change their life,” Andrea said.

The great-grandparents now plan to tick off a bucket list trip to Morocco.
