Fourth Body Found in City’s Bayou in 2 Weeks, Sparking More Serial Killer Claims

The discovery of a body in a bayou in Texas marks the first such case this year, but it is notably the fourth in just two weeks.

The body, which was found in Houston’s Buffalo Bayou, was reported by KPRC. According to Police Lieutenant Larry Crowson, it was a maintenance crew performing routine cleaning who stumbled upon the body, which appears to be that of a man.

Authorities are currently investigating to determine the cause of death.

In the previous year, at least 34 bodies were recovered from Houston’s bayous, while in 2024, the number was slightly higher with 35 discoveries. One notable instance involved a man found in Buffalo Bayou on Christmas Eve, whose identity remains unknown. As reported by KRIV, police shared images of the man’s tattoos, seeking public assistance in identifying him, as the cause of his death is still uncertain.

This past September, five individuals, including 20-year-old University of Houston student Jade McKissic, were found dead in Houston bayous. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences has labeled the deaths of McKissic, Rodney Chatman, Seth Hansen, and Michael Rice as undetermined.

In response to public concerns, officials in September dismissed theories suggesting the involvement of a serial killer. They also stated that there was no evidence pointing to foul play in these cases. Instead, they highlighted ongoing challenges the city faces with substance abuse, mental health issues, and homelessness as factors contributing to these deaths.

However, the Houston Chronicle noted that 68 of these bayou cases are listed as undetermined — meaning there is limited evidence surrounding their deaths.

Anyone with information regarding the Christmas Eve case should call the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences at their main number 832-927-5000 or their forensic investigations department at 832-927-5001.
