In a severe escalation, Russia unleashed a barrage of drone and missile strikes on Ukraine’s capital, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and leaving at least 16 others injured, according to Ukrainian authorities. The assault, which occurred overnight into Friday, highlights the ongoing conflict’s toll on civilian life.

In a related development, the western city of Lviv experienced a strike targeting its critical infrastructure. Mayor Andriy Sadoviy reported that an unidentified ballistic missile was responsible for the damage. Ukraine’s Air Force Western Command disclosed that the missile traveled at a staggering speed exceeding 8,000 miles per hour, with investigations underway to determine its specific type.

Multiple districts within Kyiv bore the brunt of the attack. Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, confirmed that in the Desnyanskyi district, a drone plummeted onto the roof of a multi-story building, while another residential building sustained damage to its first two floors.

In the Dnipro district, debris from a drone inflicted damage on a multi-story building, sparking a fire that further compounded the chaos.

The repercussions of the assault disrupted essential services, leaving parts of Kyiv without running water and electricity, as reported by Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

This wave of attacks occurred shortly after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy cautioned the nation about Russia’s intentions to launch a major offensive. He warned that Russia might exploit the icy winter conditions in Kyiv, which render roads and streets hazardous.
