VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – In a troubling case in Volusia County, the executive director of a senior living facility has been accused of betraying the trust of residents by allegedly stealing and selling their jewelry. This unsettling situation was brought to light by the local sheriff’s office.

The suspect, identified as Shaun Burstein, 45, from Sanford, is facing an arrest warrant. Authorities have charged him with dealing in stolen property and the theft of items from individuals aged 65 and older.

The investigation was launched following the report of a missing engagement ring from a resident’s bedroom at the Arya senior living facility located off Signature Drive in DeBary. This incident set off a chain of events that led to further scrutiny.

According to the sheriff’s office, video surveillance played a crucial role in the investigation. The footage revealed Burstein entering an unoccupied room, approaching the jewelry box, and leaving shortly after. In another instance caught on camera, Burstein was seen trying to open the jewelry box but left upon noticing the surveillance camera.

Further evidence surfaced through pawn records, which detectives used to track multiple pieces of jewelry sold by Burstein, including the missing engagement ring. During an interrogation, Burstein reportedly confessed to stealing jewelry from several residents and selling the items at pawn shops.

Deputies said more than 93 pieces of jewelry were sold from Sept. 23, 2025, to Dec. 30, 2025.

An investigation is ongoing. Deputies ask anyone who may be a victim or who believes their family member is a victim to contact Detective Patel at ANPatel@volusiasheriff.gov.
