CONAKRY – In a heartwarming development, Hollywood stars Meagan Good and Jonathan Majors have been granted citizenship in Guinea after discovering their ancestral roots in the West African nation through DNA analysis.

The couple received their citizenship during a private ceremony held in Conakry, the country’s capital, on Friday. They plan to explore Guinea’s tourist attractions during a scheduled tour on Sunday.

“We believe you are among the esteemed sons and daughters of Guinea, representing our nation and the red-yellow-green flag worldwide,” stated Djiba Diakité, who heads the president’s cabinet.

Jonathan Majors was once on the brink of joining Hollywood’s elite, celebrated for his performances in “Da 5 Bloods” and “Lovecraft Country,” and poised for a long-term role as Kang the Conqueror in the Marvel universe. However, his career faced a setback following a legal incident in 2023 involving his then-girlfriend. After being convicted on charges of assault and harassment, Marvel decided to part ways with him, halting his rise and putting “Magazine Dreams,” a film predicted to earn him an Oscar nomination, on hold until the previous year.

Meagan Good, also an accomplished actor, began her relationship with Majors in 2023 and stood by his side throughout his New York trial. The couple got engaged in 2024 and tied the knot last year in an intimate, spontaneous ceremony as Majors promoted “Magazine Dreams.”

Guinea’s decision to grant citizenship to descendants of enslaved individuals follows a global trend, as last year, U.S. singer Ciara became one of the initial public figures to be awarded citizenship in Benin.

Ghana last year naturalized 524 African Americans, after President Nana Akufo-Addo invited them to “come home” in 2019, as part of the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first enslaved Africans in North America in 1619.

Guinea has been ruled by junta leader Gen. Mamadi Doumbouya since a 2021 coup. Last month, he was declared the winner of the presidential election after clamping down on opposition and dissents, leaving him with no major opponents.
