At the 2026 Golden Globe Awards, the medical drama “The Pitt” emerged victorious in the Outstanding Drama Series category, surpassing the highly praised “Severance.”

Though “Severance” entered the competition with a strong edge, boasting four nominations—double that of its contender—it was Noah Wyle’s medical drama that clinched the top honor.

The win comes four months after the ER alum also won his first Emmy for the HBO Max series. Wyle also took home an acting Golden Globe earlier in the evening for his lead role on the show as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch.

Industry analysts had their bets on “Severance,” which had made a formidable return last January with a second season that garnered impressive reviews. However, “The Pitt” premiered around the same period and quickly captured attention, creating a significant buzz.

Produced by ER veteran John Wells, “The Pitt” launched as one of Max’s top five original series premieres, according to the streaming service.

The series brings the hustle and bustle of an emergency room to life, with each episode encapsulating a single hour of a shift at the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, reminiscent of classic medical dramas like “E.R.”

Both of these highly regarded series will face off once more at the 2026 Actor Awards—previously known as the SAG Awards—on March 1.
