Authorities have gathered all surveillance footage from the Tepe neighborhood, focusing specifically on the hours between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. They have released a video showing an individual walking through the alley behind the Tepe residence.
Investigators suspect this individual is Michael McKee. Additionally, a car with an Illinois license plate was seen entering the neighborhood shortly before the tragic incident and departing soon afterward.
The vehicle’s license plate is registered to Michael McKee, a vascular surgeon based in Chicago, and is also the ex-husband of Monique Tepe.
The car, linked to McKee, was tracked to Rockford, Illinois. Evidence discovered within the vehicle connects McKee to the murders of Spencer and Monique Tepe.
While the police have not disclosed the specific evidence found in the vehicle, nor the motive behind the murders, they assert that proof exists showing McKee had possession of the vehicle both before and after the crimes.
The arrest warrant indicates that the murders occurred at 3:52 a.m., with McKee identified through the surveillance footage and vehicle registration. He faces two counts of murder and is currently held in a Winnebago County jail, awaiting extradition to Ohio.
Monique Tepe married vascular surgeon Michael McKee in August 2015, but separated as a couple after just seven months. The couple had no children.
Monique stated the reason for the divorce was that they were “incompatible.” After living separately and apart for a year, divorce proceedings began in May 2017, and the divorce was final the next month.
