New revelations are surfacing regarding a 21-year-old University of Kentucky student and cheerleader, who stands accused of concealing her newborn in her dormitory closet.
Laken Snelling’s legal proceedings are advancing to a grand jury, which is slated to review the evidence by late January. The jury is anticipated to deliberate on indicting Snelling for the original three charges she denied, with the potential addition of murder or manslaughter based on forthcoming autopsy findings.
Snelling was apprehended after authorities discovered her infant deceased in a trash bag stored in her closet. The autopsy has yet to clarify the cause of death, only adding to the puzzling circumstances. Prior to this discovery, Snelling had shared images online showcasing her pregnancy.
Investigators claim that Snelling secretly delivered the baby, subsequently wrapping him in a towel, placing him in a trash bag, and storing him in her closet.
As detailed in the arrest report, Lexington police responded to a residence on Park Avenue following reports of an unresponsive newborn. Upon arrival, officers located the infant’s body wrapped in a towel within a black trash bag in the closet.
The cheerleader faces charges of corpse abuse, evidence tampering, and concealing a birth.
Court records show Snelling took selfies during the birth.
