Scott Adams, the creative mind behind the beloved comic strip “Dilbert,” has passed away, as confirmed through a message on his social media accounts.

Earlier this year in May, Adams revealed he was battling an aggressive form of prostate cancer, a diagnosis that ultimately led to his demise.

“Dilbert,” a satirical depiction of the challenges and absurdities within corporate America, rose to prominence during the 1990s and became a staple in newspapers across the nation. However, its run came to an abrupt halt in February 2023. This occurred after Adams made controversial and racially charged remarks, labeling Black Americans as a “hate group” and suggesting that white people should distance themselves from them. These comments were in response to a questionable poll about whether it is “OK to be white.” In the aftermath, numerous publications ceased carrying “Dilbert,” and the comic strip was soon abandoned by its distributor.

In the wake of this fallout, Adams transitioned to self-publishing a more provocative version of the strip, “Dilbert Reborn,” accessible on his website for a subscription fee. Despite facing physical challenges, including cramping and partial paralysis in his hands, Adams continued to write the strips until he ceased drawing them in November 2025.

The news of his passing was shared by his former wife, Shelly Miles, during an episode of “Coffee with Scott Adams,” a daily livestream hosted by Adams himself until his death. The announcement included a heartfelt statement written by Adams on New Year’s Day.

“I had an amazing life,” Adams expressed in his farewell message. “I gave it everything I had. If I get any benefits from my work, I’m asking that you pay it forward as best as you can. That’s the legacy I want. Be useful, and please know, I loved you all to the very end.”
