Tragedy struck a Florida office building on Monday afternoon when two individuals lost their lives in a shooting incident. The suspect, who fled the scene, was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a police pursuit that ended in a car crash.
According to a statement by the Boynton Beach Police, officers responded to reports of the shooting around 4 p.m., discovering two people with fatal gunshot injuries. As a precaution, nearby schools and businesses were immediately placed on lockdown to ensure public safety.
Authorities quickly identified the suspect, and soon after, a tip came in regarding a “suspicious vehicle” that matched the suspect’s description. Officers attempted to conduct a high-risk traffic stop, but the suspect evaded capture, leading police on a chase.
The pursuit concluded when the suspect crashed the vehicle. Upon reaching the scene, officers found that the suspect had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
With the situation under control and no further threat identified, the lockdowns in the area were subsequently lifted, allowing normal activities to resume.
After the suspect was found dead, lockdowns were lifted.
Police provided no further information about the victims, suspect, or the incident itself.
“The investigation is still ongoing; however, we do know both the suspect and the victims knew each other,” said Boynton Beach Police Chief Joe DeGiulio, according to WPBF.
DeGiulio said that investigators believe the suspect shot himself while he was driving and crashed after the shot.
