Troops from several European countries continued to arrive in Greenland on Thursday in a show of support for Denmark as talks between representatives of Denmark, Greenland and the US highlighted “fundamental disagreement” over the future of the Arctic island.
Denmark announced it would increase its military presence in Greenland on Wednesday as foreign ministers from Denmark and Greenland were preparing to meet with White House representatives in Washington.

Some European allies, such as France, Germany, the UK, Norway, and Sweden, began deploying a small number of troops on Wednesday, with plans for additional deployments in the coming days.

A spokesperson noted that the people of Greenland recognize their unique position in the evolving global order. They feel a duty not only to themselves but also to the international community to ensure things are handled correctly.

Høegh-Dam emphasized that military activities should not occur in close proximity to schools and kindergartens, highlighting the need for careful consideration of the locations of such operations.

Line McGee, a 38-year-old resident of Copenhagen, shared her relief with the Associated Press over recent diplomatic advancements. “While the threat hasn’t completely vanished,” she remarked, “I’m feeling a bit more at ease compared to yesterday.”

During a meeting with reporters in the Oval Office, President Trump commented, “We’ll see how it all works out. I think something will work out.”
