Authorities in Canberra have uncovered four additional pipe bombs, following the discovery of nearly a dozen similar devices along public walkways earlier this week.

Earlier in the week, police had located 11 explosive devices in the Belconnen district, situated in the north-west of the city, after receiving multiple alerts from the public.

The initial batch of devices was found near Lake Ginninderra, specifically between Joynton Smith Drive and Ginninderra Drive.

Today, the police have confirmed the discovery and seizure of an additional four pipe bombs in the Belconnen area, bringing the total count of these dangerous devices to 15.

Officers believe the four pipe bombs are linked to the other 11 devices.

“ACT Policing yesterday cleared the area between Ginninderra Drive and Joynton Smith Drive and will continue to respond to reports of suspected explosive devices as required,” police said in a statement earlier this week.

“ACT Policing is urging anyone who locates a suspicious item within the area not to touch it and immediately contact police on triple zero (000).

“Anyone who witnesses suspicious behaviour is urged to contact police on 131 444.

“While there is no information or reports to suggest that these pipe bombs are currently in other parts of Canberra, police are urging any Canberrans to report suspicious items that match the description of a pipe bomb to police.”
