Rep. Swalwell Vows To Strip ICE Agents of Driver's Licenses

California Representative Eric Swalwell has made a bold promise regarding the future of immigration enforcement in the state. If elected as California’s governor, Swalwell intends to revoke the driving privileges of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

At a recent Empowerment Congress event, Swalwell addressed questions about his strategy to shield Californians from ICE activities, as reported by Mediaite. He detailed his plan to instruct law enforcement to wield their authority fully against ICE officers, potentially charging them with offenses such as battery, false imprisonment, and even murder.

Swalwell stated, “They’re going to lose their immunity. They won’t be able to drive. I will take away their driver’s licenses. Good luck walking to work, a**holes.”

In a December interview with MS NOW, Swalwell expressed criticism of President Donald Trump’s actions, particularly the deployment of ICE agents to pursue immigrants. He emphasized the necessity for these agents to disclose their identities and be accountable for any illegal actions.

Swalwell asserted, “If they commit crimes, they will be charged accordingly—whether it’s false imprisonment, kidnapping, or assault. I also believe that if the governor has the power to issue driver’s licenses, those who hide behind masks and fail to identify themselves will not qualify to drive in California.”

During an interview with MS NOW in December, Swalwell stated that if President Donald Trump was “going to send ICE agents to chase immigrants through the fields where they work,” he would “make sure that they take off their masks and show their faces, that they show their identification.”

“If they commit crimes that they’re going to be charged with crimes, if it’s falsely imprisoning people, if it’s kidnapping, if it’s assault battery, they’re going to be held accountable,” Swalwell added. “I also think if the governor has the ability to issue driver’s licenses to people in California, if you’re going to wear a mask and not identify yourself, you’re not going to be eligible to drive a vehicle in California.”

– News reported that during an appearance on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live in November, Swalwell announced that he was “running to be the next governor of California” to replace California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D).
