An individual from Georgia found himself in custody last week after an 8-week-old infant was admitted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, suffering from a brain hemorrhage attributed to abusive head trauma.
Julian Chase Jalbert Sr., aged 27, was apprehended at the hospital on Wednesday, facing charges of child cruelty and battery, as reported by WAGA.
Authorities from Hall County were initially dispatched to a residence around 9 a.m. on January 11 following a report of a non-responsive infant. The child was first taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville before being transferred to the children’s hospital in Atlanta for further care.
During their investigation, officials also examined the infant’s twin, who was found to have a bruise on the leg. Law enforcement officials concluded that Jalbert was responsible for both the severe injuries inflicted on the hospitalized infant and the minor injury sustained by the sibling.
According to police, the severe trauma suffered by the critically injured baby was likely the result of “violent” shaking, as detailed by WSB.
Jalbert remains in custody without the possibility of bond, and the Georgia Division of Family and Children’s Services has taken custody of both infants.
