Staff Report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – An inmate at Alachua County Jail, Gregory Leon Curtis Jr., aged 41, is facing charges for making 26 phone calls to the victim in his domestic battery case, violating a judge’s no-contact order.

On January 11, Curtis was arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman by punching her multiple times. During his initial court appearance, Judge Donna Keim explicitly instructed him to refrain from any contact with the victim and issued a no-contact order.

Before his court appearance, Curtis allegedly reached out to the victim using his Personal Identification Number (PIN). Following the hearing, a family member reportedly reminded him of the no-contact order, to which Curtis acknowledged the warning.

Despite this, Curtis allegedly bypassed the order by using another inmate’s PIN to call the victim 26 times between January 11 and January 21. These recorded conversations reportedly included attempts to persuade the victim to alter her testimony to get the case dismissed. Curtis is also accused of asking family members to contact the victim to influence her story, further breaching the no-contact order.

He now faces 26 counts of violating his pre-trial release terms, with the no-contact order remaining in effect regardless of his detention status. Curtis’s criminal history includes 10 felony convictions (non-violent) and seven misdemeanors (one violent), alongside two prison terms, the last ending in July 2025. Facing an additional domestic battery charge, Judge Jonathan Ramsey has increased his bail by $130,000 ($5,000 per charge), adding to the existing $50,000. Furthermore, Judge Ramsey has rescinded Curtis’s phone privileges, limiting them to attorney communications only.

Phone calls from the jail are free for inmates in Alachua County.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
