A man has died after falling from a seventh floor balcony in Sydney’s west in what police called an “absolutely tragic” incident.

Early this morning, law enforcement responded to a domestic violence report at an apartment complex on Hamilton Road in Fairfield, following a call from a concerned woman at 2:10 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a 55-year-old man precariously perched on the railing of a seventh-floor balcony.

While some officers attempted to communicate with him from the ground below, others made their way upstairs. Tragically, the man fell, sustaining fatal head injuries.

Despite the efforts of NSW Ambulance paramedics, who worked diligently to save him, the man succumbed to his injuries.

NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Brett McFadden expressed his sorrow over the incident, stating, “This is an absolutely tragic set of circumstances.”

He added that the investigation will include an examination of the domestic and family violence events that occurred on that day.

“Part of the investigation will look at the domestic and family violence that’s taken place on the day.”

He said an AVO was in place but it didn’t specifically prevent contact.

“It is a complex set of circumstances involving the two people, a man and a woman,” he said.

A 46-year-old woman, who was inside the unit, was assessed for shock and minor injuries.

A crime scene was set up and an investigation launched.

It’ll be the subject of an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and oversight by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
