HAWTHORNE, Fla. – Authorities have apprehended 64-year-old Allen Duane Miller following allegations of brandishing a firearm at another motorist in a road rage incident.
Around 6:23 p.m. on January 23, a deputy from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office responded to an altercation reported along U.S. Hwy 301 in Hawthorne. The incident allegedly involved Miller pointing a gun at another driver.
The reported victim recounted driving behind an SUV that abruptly braked on Lake Susan Road. Both vehicles subsequently turned onto U.S. Hwy 301. The victim, positioned in the left lane, claimed that Miller, who was in the right lane, rolled down his window to shout at him. After exchanging heated words, the situation intensified when they halted at an intersection, where the victim alleged Miller aimed a black handgun at him, fearing he might get shot.
Upon learning about the incident’s coverage on Facebook, Miller reportedly reached out to law enforcement, stating, “I lifted my hand up so that he knew I had a gun.”
Miller described feeling threatened when the victim’s vehicle followed closely on Lake Susan Road, prompting him to brake. He claimed that after merging onto U.S. Hwy 301, both parties exchanged expletives. At the following stop, Miller admitted to lifting his handgun with his left hand, intending to display his possession of a firearm, but asserted he aimed it toward his windshield rather than at the other driver. He reportedly noted that the victim never made any threats against him.
Miller has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He has no criminal history, and Judge Susanne Wilson Bullard set bail at $20,000.
