Sister of Alex Pretti hits out at 'disgusting lies' and honors brother

Alex Pretti’s sister has fiercely criticized the “disgusting lies” circulating about her brother, an ICU nurse who was fatally shot by federal agents in Minneapolis.

Micayla Pretti broke her silence with a statement on Monday, addressing the widely reported death of her 37-year-old brother.

In her heartfelt message, Micayla described Alex as a “hero” known for his compassion, contradicting the image painted by ICE of him as a dangerous armed individual.

“All Alex ever wanted was to help someone—anyone,” Micayla stated. “Even in his final moments, he was simply trying to do just that.”

Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, stated that the agents involved “clearly feared for their lives” when Pretti allegedly confronted them on Saturday during an immigration operation.

Noem explained that the officers fired their weapons in self-defense after Pretti reportedly “violently” resisted and “brandished” a gun at them.

Micayla fiercely disputed any claims that her brother was a ‘domestic terrorist’ or an attempted assassin.

‘When does this end? How many more innocent lives must be lost before we say enough?’ she asked in despair.

‘Hearing disgusting lies spread about my brother is absolutely gut-wrenching.’

Trump has weighed in on Pretti’s death, telling The Wall Street Journal: ‘I don’t like any shooting. I don’t like it.’

‘But I don’t like it when somebody goes into a protest and he’s got a very powerful, fully-loaded gun with two magazines loaded up with bullets also,’ he continued. ‘That doesn’t play good either.’

DHS officials have maintained that Pretti approached the officers with a loaded 9mm semiautomatic handgun.

But several videos captured by witnesses appear to show Pretti holding his phone up to agents, not a gun.

Another piece of footage apparently shows an officer removing Pretti’s gun from his waistband before shots were fired.

Minneapolis police said the Veterans Affairs (VA) nurse had no serious criminal history and was a lawful gun owner with a valid permit.

After Pretti was seemingly disarmed, the footage does not clearly show the origin of the first shot.

One gun expert has said he believes Pretti’s Sig Sauer P320 went off in the hands of an agent, prompting another agent to open fire.

‘I believe it’s highly likely the first shot was a negligent discharge from the agent in the grey jacket after he removed the Sig P320 from Pretti’s holster while exiting the scene,’ Rob Dobar, a lawyer for the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus, wrote on X.

Trump said his administration will investigate Pretti’s fatal shooting, as he signaled a willingness to withdraw immigration enforcement officials from Minneapolis.

‘We’re looking, we’re reviewing everything and will come out with a determination,’ Trump told the WSJ. ‘At some point we will leave.’

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said he spoke to Trump about the immigration crackdown in his city and some federal officers will begin leaving.

Frey said that during a call with the president, they both agreed that the situation regarding ICE’s presence cannot continue.

The mayor claimed that some agents will begin leaving as early as Tuesday. Sources familiar with the situation said that Border Patrol commander Greg Bovino is among those being pushed out.

Bovino has been at the center of the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration enforcement surge in cities nationwide.

He has been criticized over the last few days for his public defense of the Pretti shooting and disputed claims about the encounter that led to his death.

Bovino reportedly lost access to his government social media accounts after spending much of the weekend sparring online over Pretti’s shooting.

Frey plans to keep fighting to ensure others involved in Operation Metro Surge go.

Operation Metro Surge is the enforcement campaign launched on December 1, 2025, that dramatically expanded the federal law enforcement presence in Minnesota.

Trump posted on social media that he had a good conversation with Frey.

‘Lots of progress is being made!’ he wrote on Truth Social on Monday.

He added that on Tuesday, White House Border Czar Tom Homan will be meeting with Frey to ‘continue the discussion.’ Homan is reportedly taking over for Bovino in Minnesota.

But DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin wrote on X that Bovino ‘has NOT been relieved of his duties’ and remains ‘a key part of the President’s team.’
