Bruce Springsteen has unveiled a new song dedicated to the residents of Minneapolis, taking a stand against President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement activities in the city.

Released on Wednesday, “Streets of Minneapolis” features lyrics that vividly depict a city in turmoil, facing both literal and metaphorical fires under what Springsteen describes as “King Trump’s private army.”

In a recent statement, Springsteen shared that he composed and recorded the track over the weekend, prompted by a second fatal shooting involving federal immigration agents in Minneapolis.

“This song is for the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors, and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good,” Springsteen stated, honoring the two individuals who lost their lives.

The song starts with a simple acoustic guitar and vocals, gradually building to a more robust arrangement complete with a harmonica solo, ultimately culminating in chants of “ICE Out!”

Springsteen passionately sings, “Oh our Minneapolis, I hear your voice. Singing through the bloody mist/We’ll take our stand for this land/And the stranger in our midst.”

The title echoes Springsteen’s “Streets of Philadelphia,” which served as a title song for the Tom Hanks-led 1993 film “Philadelphia.”

Springsteen has long been critical of the president, who in turn has called the rock icon “overrated.” They last publicly clashed last year, when Springsteen on tour in England told his audience that America “is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration.” Trump responded by calling Springsteen a “dried out prune of a rocker.”
