Health experts have said that a “common dietary supplement” could benefit people suffering from diabetes and anxiety. Not only that, but it may assist those dealing with hypertension, otherwise known as high blood pressure.

Recent insights from health professionals suggest that a widely-used dietary supplement may offer relief for individuals grappling with diabetes and anxiety. Additionally, this supplement could provide benefits for those struggling with hypertension, commonly referred to as high blood pressure.

As reported by Health, magnesium taurate is a chemical compound that combines the mineral magnesium with taurine, an amino acid. Experts are highlighting its potential not only in these areas but also in enhancing eye, heart, and brain health.

Reducing blood pressure and supporting heart health

Researchers elaborate: “Current evidence regarding the benefits of magnesium taurate largely stems from animal research. Findings indicate that magnesium taurate might help lower blood pressure, enhance heart health, regulate insulin sensitivity, prevent and treat cataracts, alleviate anxiety, and assist in managing the impacts of traumatic brain injuries.”

Magnesium’s role in managing blood pressure is well-documented, yet some individuals prefer magnesium taurate over magnesium alone, as reported by The Mirror. Health experts point out that this choice is due to its improved absorption and reduced side effects, such as diarrhea.

Reducing anxiety

When you’re feeling anxious, the sensation of a rapid heartbeat can be quite alarming. However, this tablet could help alleviate tension, reduce anxiety and relieve stress.

“In a 2019 study, magnesium taurate was found to be especially effective in reducing anxiety when compared with other magnesium compounds”, Health states.

Diabetes

People with type 2 diabetes and other metabolic disorders often struggle with insulin resistance. This condition hampers the body’s ability to effectively regulate blood sugar levels.

Studies suggest that taurine may aid in lowering blood sugar and enhancing insulin sensitivity. Moreover, a deficiency in magnesium has been linked to an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Preliminary findings indicate that magnesium taurate might also boost the body’s insulin response, potentially decreasing the risk of diabetes.

NHS warning about magnesium

The NHS clarifies that a magnesium test is used to determine the level of magnesium in your blood and could be useful for some people. This metallic element, primarily found in the bones, is “essential to life.”

They point out: “Abnormal magnesium levels can occur in conditions that affect the functioning of your kidneys or intestines. A magnesium test may be recommended as part of a series of tests if you have symptoms such as nausea, weakness, twitching, cramping or cardiac arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat).

“You may have abnormally low levels of magnesium, calcium or potassium in your blood.”
