Car, who is also the state’s education minister, stepped back from the job in June last year to undergo treatment for breast cancer, three years after battling kidney cancer.

“I’m thrilled to hop on here and share that tomorrow marks my return to work as we start the new school year,” Car announced in a Facebook video.

“A heartfelt thank you to everyone who stood by me through a challenging seven or eight months on my breast cancer journey,” she expressed with gratitude.

Car extended her appreciation to her medical team and the dedicated staff at Sydney’s Chris O’Brien Lifehouse cancer center.

She acknowledged the immense support from her husband Brad, her son, colleagues, and the local community throughout her treatment.

The Londonderry MP commended NSW Premier Chris Minns for standing by her during the last seven months and thanked Courtney Houssos for her contribution as her acting education portfolio replacement.

“Overcoming breast cancer has transformed me in countless ways,” Car reflected.

“However, my steadfast dedication to serving the people of NSW remains unchanged,” she affirmed.

“I can’t wait to get back to work for the people of NSW.

Car had previously been diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2022.

After last year’s diagnosis, Car noted her condition had been caught early.

“I’ve fought this before and I’m really confident that I can fight it again,” Car said at the time.

She remained NSW deputy premier in her absence.
