POLK COUNTY, Fla. – In a tragic turn of events on Sunday, a person was discovered deceased following a fire that consumed a mobile home in Polk County, officials have confirmed.

The incident occurred on Scenic View Street, where Polk County Fire Rescue teams responded swiftly to what they described as a fully engulfed single-wide mobile home. The crews were met with intense flames upon their arrival, according to a news release from the authorities.

Firefighters acted promptly, battling the blaze to gain entry into the home. Once inside, they found an individual who had already succumbed to their injuries, the release stated. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

“Scenes like this are always tough for all involved—especially when entrapment is suspected,” remarked Fire Chief Shawn Smith in a heartfelt statement. “Our first arriving crews encountered heavy fire conditions, and despite their valiant efforts to locate any entrapped occupants, they found a victim who had unfortunately perished. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends during this difficult time.”

Thankfully, no injuries were reported among the firefighting teams. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office alongside the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office, as they work to uncover the details behind this tragic incident.

No injuries to firefighters were reported and the incident is still being investigated by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office, the release states.
