An Australian woman has died in an accident at a ski resort in Japan.

Tsugaike Gondola Lift Co, the operators of Tsugaike Mountain Resort, has confirmed the tragic death of a guest following a mishap involving a chairlift. The incident was reported on the company’s website on Friday.

The victim, a 22-year-old Australian woman, became trapped in midair when a buckle from her clothing snagged on the lift as she attempted to disembark.

A spokesperson for Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade stated, “We are extending consular support to the family of an Australian who passed away in Japan. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the family during this challenging period. Due to privacy concerns, we are unable to disclose further details.”

Reports suggest that the woman may have suffered a heart attack before being transported to a hospital, where she subsequently passed away.

In a statement, Tsuneo Kubo, the company’s chief executive and president, expressed his sorrow: “We offer our deepest sympathies to the grieving family and pray for the peaceful repose of their loved one.”

“We would like to express our deepest condolences to the bereaved family and pray for the repose of their souls,” company chief executive and president Tsuneo Kubo said in a statement.

“We will continue to fully cooperate with the police and related agencies in their investigations.”

Kubo said staff would also look into strengthening the resort’s safety management in an effort to prevent a recurrence.
