During a speech promoting the administration’s latest initiative, the ‘Trump Account,’ the president praised Cruz, calling him ‘a brilliant legal mind.’ Trump jested, ‘If I nominate him for the United States Supreme Court, I will get 100 percent of the vote. The Democrats will vote for him to get him out, and the Republicans will do the same.’ The audience erupted in laughter, though it was unclear if Cruz shared their amusement.

In response, Cruz firmly declined the hypothetical offer. Speaking on the Ruthless Podcast shortly after Trump’s comments, Cruz said, ‘No, just no. Hell no.’ The Daily Mail exclusively obtained this video. Even if Trump were serious about nominating Cruz, a vacancy on the Supreme Court would be necessary, and currently, there are no signs of any upcoming openings. The podcast, hosted by Josh Holmes, Comfortably Smug (an alias for one of the unnamed hosts), and John Ashbrook, often features discussions on Republican politics with prominent GOP figures.

The podcast hosts were the first to capture Cruz’s immediate reaction to Trump’s unexpected remark. Whether the president was joking or not remains uncertain, but the comment underscores how Cruz, once a political rival in the 2016 elections, remains in Trump’s favor. Interestingly, a recent report suggested that Cruz had criticized Trump and Vice President JD Vance in a private conversation with donors earlier this week.

‘Mr. President, if we get to November of [2026] and people’s 401(k)s are down 30% and prices are up 10–20% at the supermarket, we’re going to go into Election Day, face a bloodbath,’ the senator told the donors, according to Axios. ‘You’re going to lose the House, you’re going to lose the Senate, you’re going to spend the next two years being impeached every single week.’ Trump was not pleased with the senator’s analysis. ‘[expletive] you, Ted,’ Cruz recounted Trump saying. The dispatch came just weeks after reports that Cruz is readying himself for a presidential run in 2028.
