Georgia's Fulton County seeks return of 2020 election documents seized by FBI

Fulton County Demands FBI Return of 2020 Election Documents Amid Ongoing Georgia Investigation

ATLANTA – In a recent development that has stirred the political landscape, Fulton County has taken decisive action by filing a motion in federal court. The county is demanding the return of documents seized from a warehouse near Atlanta by the FBI, in relation to the 2020 election. This move was confirmed by officials in the Georgia county on Wednesday.

In addition to reclaiming these documents, the motion seeks to have a law enforcement agent’s sworn statement unsealed. This critical document was initially presented to the judge who authorized the search warrant, according to county spokesperson Jessica Corbitt-Dominguez. Due to the sensitive nature of the case, which remains under seal, the county has refrained from publicly releasing the motion.

The search in question took place on January 28 at Fulton County’s primary election facility located in Union City. The operation aimed to gather records pertinent to the 2020 election, an event that continues to echo in political discussions.

Fulton County, a stronghold for Democratic voters, has been under scrutiny by former President Donald Trump and his supporters ever since he narrowly lost the presidential race in Georgia to Democrat Joe Biden in 2020. Trump has persistently alleged, without substantiating evidence, that rampant voter fraud in the county was a factor in his defeat.

Documents accompanying the warrant revealed the FBI’s specific interest in various election materials. These included all ballots, tabulator tapes from voting machines, electronic ballot images generated during both the initial count and the recount, as well as complete voter rolls.
