In an unexpected move to repair strained ties within conservative circles, JD Vance is re-establishing connections with Laura Loomer, a controversial figure linked to Trump, after their heated online altercation.

During a comprehensive interview with the Daily Mail on Tuesday, the Vice President opened up about his public dispute with the 32-year-old Loomer, whom he had sharply criticized just last week for condemning his appearance at a pro-life event in Washington, DC.

Loomer, known for her far-right commentary and boasting over 1.8 million followers on X (formerly known as Twitter), has been a steadfast supporter of Donald Trump. She had lambasted the White House’s involvement in last month’s March for Life, which marked the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

On January 24, Loomer questioned, “Why is the GOP pushing more abortion messaging in a midterm election year? Didn’t they learn their lesson in 2018?”

At that time, Vance fired back, calling Loomer’s comments “disgraceful” for criticizing the administration and creating division. He also emphasized Trump’s dedication to anti-abortion initiatives.

However, when asked by the Daily Mail this week about Loomer’s relevance to the Republican Party, Vance acknowledged her significant following, though he hesitated to label her as a party asset.

The VP then traded his stick for a carrot, insisting to the Daily Mail: ‘I’ve got no problem with Laura Loomer.

‘Sometimes people say things on the internet to get on my nerves, and I respond to them. Sometimes they say things that get on my nerves and I ignore them.’

The Vice President confirmed Loomer’s influence in Trump’s inner circle

Loomer responded to Vance’s friendly olive branch by reconfirming her loyalty to the Trump administration in a statement to the Daily Mail

Loomer has long claimed she maintains a close relationship with the White House and the President. And Vance has now confirmed her close influence in Trump’s inner circle. 

‘She is a confidant of the President. The President talks to her,’ he said.

‘I’m not trying to reinvigorate my spat with Laura Loomer. I said what I said, I’m going to disagree with Laura from time to time. But she is a person that both me and the President talk to.’

Vance went on to praise Loomer for remaining ‘very loyal to the President’, adding that it is a rare quality in Trump world. 

‘I admire that. She just is who she is. If she disagrees with you, she’s going to call you out. Laura Loomer and I can have our disagreements while fundamentally being aligned on supporting the president’s agenda.’

Loomer responded to Vance’s friendly olive branch by reconfirming her loyalty to the Trump administration. 

‘I have no ill-will against the Vice President, and I want to see him and President Trump have nothing but success,’ Loomer told the Daily Mail. ‘I hope they both have very prosperous political futures.’ 

‘I’m not going to wish for the pilot of the plane to crash the plane. Why would I want JD Vance and President Trump to fail? I don’t. I want them to have a lot of success in everything that they do.’

Loomer, however, did go on to bash Tucker Carlson, the conservative media influencer who is a close friend to Vance.

She accused Carlson of platforming antisemites and noted that she was concerned over Carlson’s access to Vance.

‘If Tucker continues to become more radicalized, and he continues making the comments that he’s making, and he still has the access that he has to the Vice President and the White House, I foresee it doing a lot of reputational damage to his [Vance] 2028 presidential aspirations,’ she said.

In a separate interview with the Daily Mail last week, Loomer name-checked Secretary of State Marco Rubio as the Republican most likely to pose a threat to Vance’s presidential prospects. 

She did so even as Rubio has publicly stated he would not challenge Vance for the GOP nomination in 2028 if he seeks it. 

Loomer expressed concern over Tucker Carlson’s access to Vance

When asked by the Daily Mail about Loomer’s attacks on Carlson, Vance refused to pick a side in the right-wing conflict. 

‘I know other people who’ve gone after Laura Loomer. Look, we have a party in the United States of America called the Republican Party,’ Vance replied. 

‘I think that’s actually good. I think it makes our party much more alive.

‘I’ve got friends who criticize Laura Loomer. I’ve got friends like Laura Loomer who criticize other friends. It’s a nature of being in a political coalition that controls all three of the major elected branches of government.’
