Dixmoor water news: New water main break at 143rd, Marshfield Avenue repaired, 2nd break reported nearby, village officials say

DIXMOOR, Ill. (WLS) — On Saturday, village officials announced a second water main burst shortly after resolving a previous one that had affected numerous homes in the southern suburb of Dixmoor.

Over the last month, the village has encountered several instances of water main failures.

“The recent rupture is situated at 143rd and Marshfield in Dixmoor, IL, impacting around 50 residences,” stated Village President Fitzgerald Roberts on Saturday evening. “These homes are currently without water service due to the break. Repair crews are on site, but a timeline for the repairs remains uncertain.”

Later that day, a village representative confirmed the repair of the initial break but reported a subsequent rupture nearby. This new issue is anticipated to be resolved by Sunday.

Last month, one of the water main issues necessitated the closure of two schools as repair teams addressed the problem. A different rupture the previous week affected more than half of Dixmoor’s population.

The village attributes part of the problem to aging infrastructure and continues to advocate for increased funding to facilitate essential upgrades.

“We still need more funding to take care of this infrastructure out here,” Roberts said last week. “I say over and over again this infrastructure is over 100 years old plus when you have hot to cold, or if it’s too hot you’re going to have pipes that break.”
