The possibility of a mass drug overdose at a music festival at Sydney Olympic Park is being investigated.

A 40-year-old man tragically lost his life, while another individual remains in critical condition, and five more were hospitalized following the Dreamstate rave held last night.

The event took place at The Dome in Sydney Olympic Park and was promoted as the ultimate experience for trance and techno enthusiasts.

John Graham, the Minister for Music and the Night-time Economy, confirmed that five attendees were urgently transported to the hospital.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident as a potential mass overdose situation.

The deceased man reportedly suffered cardiac arrest, believed to be triggered by taking illicit drugs.

Although drug testing wasn’t available at the rave, such services are being provided at today’s event in Centennial Park.

Despite the weather, Laneway Festival drew in big numbers and a big police presence with drug-detection dogs working the crowd.

“It is a reminder that pill testing that has been going on is very important, has allowed information from health to be distributed,” Graham said.
