GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Authorities have arrested 21-year-old Domitree Gerald Bacon on charges including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and holding less than 20 grams of marijuana.

The incident unfolded around 2:52 p.m. on February 6, when an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy observed a gray Pontiac veering into oncoming traffic. The vehicle also reportedly ignored a stop sign while entering U.S. Highway 441 at NW 55th Avenue.

The deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Northwest 53rd Avenue. However, the Pontiac continued past several safe stopping points, prompting deputies to employ a vehicle box-in maneuver to bring the car to a halt. Bacon was identified as the passenger in the vehicle.

During a consensual search, the deputy reportedly discovered 2.7 grams of marijuana in Bacon’s pocket. It was noted that Bacon does not possess a medical marijuana card.

As the deputy approached the car, he reported detecting a strong scent of burnt marijuana. Additionally, marijuana residue, or “shake,” was found scattered in the driver’s door, on the driver’s seat, and on the floor. A subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered a pistol with an extended magazine beneath Bacon’s seat and another bag containing 15 grams of marijuana in the center console. The arrest report, however, does not provide details regarding the driver, despite the marijuana found in the console.

Bacon is a convicted felon who is on probation and is not permitted to possess firearms.

Bacon has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, and violating probation. He was arrested for vehicle burglary in Alachua as a juvenile, but the disposition of that case is not a public record. He was arrested in August 2024 for fighting at a high school football game in Hawthorne and refusing to stop when instructed by deputies, and he entered into a pre-trial diversion agreement on those charges but failed to successfully complete the terms of the agreement and eventually entered a plea of nolo contendere to the charges; adjudication of guilt was withheld, and he was fined $343 in October 2025, but he has only paid $30 of the fees, and his scheduled payments are past due. He is on probation out of Orange County until June 2027 for fleeing law enforcement. Judge Adam Lee set bail at $85,000 on the new charges.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
