In his upcoming memoir, “Young Man in a Hurry,” set to hit the shelves later this month, California Governor Gavin Newsom offers a candid exploration of his family background and personal journey, all while spilling some intriguing political tidbits.
Although the book delves into the intricacies of Newsom’s identity, it doesn’t hold back on sharing captivating anecdotes. Among these is a peculiar tour of Air Force One with President Donald Trump, as well as the story behind the notorious photograph of his ex-wife, Kimberly Guilfoyle, who is now Greece’s ambassador, lounging on a rug.
The internet has a penchant for remembering iconic moments, particularly the 2004 Harper’s Bazaar photo where Newsom and Guilfoyle are seen elegantly draped in formal attire on the carpet of the Getty mansion.
In his memoir, Newsom reveals that the pose was intended as a humorous suggestion by Ann Getty, yet it became the focal point of an eight-page spread dubbed “The New Kennedys.”
While the image became a subject of ridicule, Newsom’s sister, Hilary, interpreted it as indicative of a larger issue: his susceptibility to being influenced by the strong-willed women in his life.
Newsom openly discusses his sister’s perspective on the matter, providing a personal critique of the incident.
‘The Harper’s Bazaar spread was case in point,’ Newsom recalls her telling him. ‘Ann was there directing it. Kimberly was there. So you went along with it. Had I been there, I would have told you, ‘Get your ass off the floor. You’re the mayor of San Francisco. That’s not a good look.’
Newsom and Guilfoyle were once viewed as a burgeoning political ‘power couple,’ a reputation solidified by their December 2001 wedding at San Francisco’s St. Ignatius Church.
While the circulating image was met with mockery, Newsom’s sister, Hilary, apparently saw it as a symptom of a deeper issue: his tendency to be pushed around by the strong-willed women in his life

While the book aims for a deep dive into who Newsom is, it doesn’t shy away from telling juicy stories, like a strange Air Force One tour with President Donald Trump , to the backstory of the infamous photo featuring his ex-wife and Greece’s new ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle laying on a rug together
Articles written about the wedding often referred to the pair as ‘the two hottest public servants getting hitched.’
During the early years of their marriage, Newsom served as a San Francisco Supervisor and later as the city’s mayor, while Guilfoyle worked as a prominent assistant district attorney.
Despite their initial image of unity, the marriage faced significant strain due to their competing professional ambitions on opposite coasts.
After Guilfoyle moved to New York City to pursue a career in broadcast journalism with Court TV and Fox News, the couple announced their separation in January 2005.
They issued a joint statement citing the difficulties of a bicoastal marriage as the primary reason for their split, and their divorce was finalized in 2006.
In the years since, their lives have taken sharp turns, both personally and politically, as Newsom rose to become the governor of California and Guilfoyle became a central figure in Republican politics and the rise of Donald Trump.
The Daily Mail reported a formal meeting with Greek President Konstantinos Tasoulas on November 4, Kimberly Guilfoyle offered a glimpse into her past marriage to Newsom.
Guilfoyle was asked by Tasoulas if she had ever visited the country before her official posting.
She noted that her history with Greece dates back over two decades, covering both her professional and personal life.

‘I actually covered the Olympic Games in 2004 for ABC News,’ Guilfoyle told Tasoulas. ‘I also had a honeymoon here in 2004. Fabulous honeymoon but…’
President Tasoulas cheekily followed up by asking, ‘Honeymoon was fabulous, but the marriage?’
‘We’ll work on getting a new husband,’ Guilfoyle responded with a laugh.
