GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Authorities have arrested Hamod Hikeem McNutt, a 28-year-old custodian from Buchholz High School, after he was allegedly found carrying two firearms on the University of Florida campus.

The incident unfolded around 9:11 p.m. on February 8, when a University of Florida Police Department officer noticed McNutt walking on campus. Upon spotting the officer, McNutt reportedly changed direction, prompting the officer to call for backup to prevent any potential escape. The officer then approached McNutt, questioned him about his presence on campus, and requested identification, which McNutt provided.

During the encounter, the officer observed a suspicious bulge in the front pocket of McNutt’s hoodie. When questioned, McNutt allegedly admitted it was a weapon, leading to his immediate detention and arrest.

A subsequent search reportedly uncovered a Smith & Wesson M&P 380 SHIELD and a Charter Arms Undercover .38 Special, along with loose ammunition found in his pocket.

After being read his Miranda rights, McNutt was questioned about whether he had been carrying the firearms on campus the previous day, which he reportedly confirmed.

McNutt now faces two charges of displaying firearms on a school campus. While he has no prior criminal convictions, a 2020 charge for leaving the scene of a crash was previously dismissed. Alachua County Public Schools have stated that McNutt, who is employed at Buchholz High School, will be placed on administrative leave pending further investigation. Judge Susan Miller-Jones has set his bail at $200,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
