Queensland residents should brace themselves for another spell of wet weather, with some areas expecting rainfall of up to 50mm.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued warnings for heavy rain and potential flooding across southern, central, and northern sections of the state.

Senior Meteorologist Dean Narramore shared with Weekend Today that Brisbane and the Gold Coast are likely to experience significant rainfall in the coming hours.

“This afternoon and evening, we anticipate an increase in rain around the Gold Coast and southeast Queensland,” Narramore noted.

“This is the reason we have current flood watches in place,” he added.

The bureau attributes the recent wet conditions to a large trough impacting western, southern, and central Queensland.

The rain and thunderstorms are likely to shift north and west away from the coast into central Queensland by tomorrow.

Rapid river level rises are possible in areas that receive the heaviest rainfall.

The bureau warns catchments likely to be affected include the upper and lower Brisbane River, including the Bremer River, and Warrill, Lockyer, Laidley, Ipswich and Brisbane creeks.

A strong marine wind warning has also been issued today for waters in Capricornia, Hervey Bay, K’gari, and the Sunshine and Gold coasts.
