Oscar-winning screen legend Robert Duvall dead at 95

Robert Duvall, the acclaimed actor who won an Academy Award, has passed away at the age of 95.

The somber announcement came from his wife, Luciana, who shared the news on his official Facebook page.

“Yesterday, we bid farewell to my dear husband, a treasured friend, and one of the finest actors of our era,” she expressed.

Duvall, who was married four times, wed Argentinian actress and director Luciana Pedraza in 2004, despite their 41-year age difference.

Known for his political leanings, Duvall was a supporter of Republican figures. He attended George W. Bush’s inauguration, helped fundraise for Mitt Romney’s campaign, and lent his voice to a video at the 2008 Republican National Convention.

In recognition of his contributions to the arts, he received the National Medal of Arts in 2004 under the Bush administration.

Duvall’s representative’s statement added on Monday that no formal service will be held. Instead, “the family encourages those who wish to honour his memory to do so in a way that reflects the life he lived by watching a great film, telling a good story around a table with friends, or taking a drive in the countryside to appreciate the world’s beauty.”
