In a tragic incident on Tuesday in Pueblo County, Colorado, four individuals lost their lives in a massive vehicle pile-up involving over 30 cars.

The crash took place at approximately 10 a.m. local time on the southbound lanes of Interstate 25, roughly 40 miles south of Colorado Springs, according to officials.

Authorities have confirmed that the collision resulted in four fatalities.

Footage from the accident site depicted a U-Haul truck among the numerous vehicles caught in the devastating crash.

The Colorado State Patrol explained in a statement that severe winds were sweeping through the area at the time, stirring up dirt and creating ‘brown out’ conditions. “Drivers faced little to no visibility,” they reported.

Following the crash, I-25 was shut down in both directions near the accident location as investigations continue.

A Colorado transportation spokesperson said there were poor conditions at the time of the crash, as heavy wind had kicked up dust and dirt.

The official cause of the crash is being investigated.

High wind warnings are in effect for the region on Tuesday. The National Weather Service in Pueblo warned that “significant blowing dust” is possible on the plains, where gusts could be up to 65 mph. Mountain areas could see gusts of at least 85 mph, it said.
