JetBlue flight returns to Newark after engine failure, smoke prompts evacuation

A JetBlue flight destined for West Palm Beach encountered a serious issue shortly after its departure from Newark Liberty International Airport on Wednesday. The aircraft had to turn back after experiencing engine failure and detecting smoke in the cockpit, leading to an emergency situation that involved a ground stop and the evacuation of passengers, according to officials.

The incident occurred after JetBlue flight 543 took off at 5:43 p.m. The Port Authority reported that the aircraft quickly returned to the airport due to the critical engine problems. Thankfully, the plane managed to land safely, and no injuries were reported. While the aircraft was being cleared from the taxiway, flight operations were temporarily suspended.

JetBlue provided a statement to Fox News, confirming the return of the plane to Newark shortly after takeoff. “The aircraft landed safely, and customers and crew members evacuated using the aircraft’s slides,” the airline stated. They emphasized that safety remains their top priority and assured that they are concentrating on supporting both customers and crew during this time. JetBlue also mentioned their commitment to working closely with federal authorities to investigate the cause of the incident.
