A distraught son is appealing to the public for assistance in recovering his family’s beloved 1972 Holden Torana, which was brazenly stolen in broad daylight from the Melbourne suburb of Hawthorn East.
The cherished vehicle holds deep sentimental value for Peter Scrivener, as it was passed down to him by his late father. Peter’s father passed away unexpectedly eight years ago, and now Peter is grappling with the prospect of losing both parents.
His mother has recently received a devastating diagnosis of inoperable cancer, and her heartfelt wish is to enjoy one last ride in the cherished car.
The vehicle was taken on Tuesday afternoon, leaving Peter in a desperate situation. In an emotional interview with 9News, he expressed his urgent need to recover the car to fulfill his mother’s final wish of one more journey together.
It was stolen on Tuesday afternoon.
Peter told 9News he desperately needs it back to take his mum for one last drive.
“She just wants to hear it and smell it and be in it – and just sit there and talk about when she was in it with my Dad. That’s all she really wants,” he said.
Peter only takes the car out occasionally and investigators believe he was followed before it was stolen.
The Torana was locked up behind his tattoo shop in a private, off-street car park.
A thief strolled by while he was working and within minutes got through the locked doors, club lock and the tracker.
CCTV caught the man driving the car away just after 4pm.
Peter wants the car back so badly he’s offering a $5000 reward for information that leads to it being returned in one piece.
It was last seen at Lower Templestowe on Wednesday morning.
By then, the plates had been removed, but it seemed to be in perfect condition.
“It’s loud and brash … Whoever’s driving it right now, people are still turning their heads,” he said.
“I just hope someone turns their head and realises ‘oh my God that’s the car’, and calls Triple Zero.”
