Emerald Fennell, known for her work on “Saltburn,” has released her latest cinematic endeavor: a new adaptation of the classic novel “Wuthering Heights.” The film features Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi in the iconic roles of Cathy and Heathcliff. Joining them is Owen Cooper, a rising star recognized for his role in the Netflix series “Adolescence,” who takes on the part of young Heathcliff in the film’s opening scenes.
Cooper was announced as part of the “Wuthering Heights” cast just before “Adolescence” made its debut on Netflix. Critics were already abuzz with excitement over his performance in the series, and his involvement in this adaptation adds another significant project to his growing portfolio. Notably, “Wuthering Heights” marks Cooper’s first time on the big screen, with more promising projects like Tom Ford’s “Cry to Heaven” slated for 2027.
Despite earning a modest 59% on Rotten Tomatoes, “Wuthering Heights” has received praise from critics for Cooper’s portrayal. Empire praised his “powerful pensiveness,” suggesting his talent extends well beyond his work in “Adolescence.” The New York Post highlighted his “conviction and passion,” likening him to an actor with far more experience. Even Jacob Elordi, who plays the older Heathcliff, lauded Cooper’s skills, describing him as “brilliant and intimidating” in an interview with 10 New First, as reported by the Daily Mail.
In “Adolescence,” Cooper takes on the challenging role of Jamie, a teenager ensnared in a dark narrative after committing murder following a classmate’s rejection and ongoing bullying. The series delves into themes of toxic masculinity and the influence of certain media on young men, often referred to as the “red pill” phenomenon.
Although “Adolescence” marked Cooper’s debut on screen, his portrayal of Jamie has already earned him significant accolades. In September 2025, he made history by becoming the youngest male actor to win a Primetime Emmy for outstanding supporting actor in a limited or anthology series or movie. By early 2026, he had added a Critics Choice award and a Golden Globe to his collection, both recognizing his stellar supporting performance.

After appearing in one of the best crime dramas on Netflix and one of the most anticipated adaptations of 2026 — with another high-profile film on the way — it’s clear Owen Cooper won’t be leaving our screens anytime soon.
