A nine-year-old boy who helped save his mother’s life by calling Triple Zero after she became unresponsive at their south Sydney home has been reunited with the paramedics who came to the scene.

On a seemingly ordinary day in July, Jayden Ansara’s quick thinking made an extraordinary difference when his mother, Angelika, suffered a sudden medical emergency at their Beverley Park residence. The 48-year-old collapsed after an undiagnosed brain aneurysm ruptured, leaving her in dire need of immediate assistance.

Without hesitation, the nine-year-old sprang into action and dialed Triple Zero, where he was connected to operator Tammy Terrazzino. His composure and swift response were crucial in those critical early moments.

Reflecting on the incident, paramedic Samantha Israel told 9News about the emotional impact of reuniting with Angelika under much improved circumstances. “Seeing her now, compared to the last time, is very emotional,” she remarked.

Each year, NSW Ambulance receives more than 1 million Triple Zero calls, and Jayden’s quick thinking is a reminder of how crucial it is to teach kids how to call for help in an emergency.

Fellow paramedic Tania Bourke underscored the importance of such prompt action, stating, “Getting timely help allows us and everyone else involved to have a better chance at aiding patients effectively.”

Angelika credited Jayden’s preparedness to the practice they had together. “We used cue cards and roleplays to train him,” she explained. “He remembered everything when it mattered most.”

”We used to do that, I guess trained him up, and he remembered.”
