GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Authorities apprehended 28-year-old Deshaun Malik Johnson yesterday following accusations of loitering near a window at the Brighton Park condominium complex and subsequently exposing himself when a frightened resident exited her home.

The woman reported to the Gainesville Police Department that she noticed a man observing her window while seated at a picnic table roughly 10 feet from her home. His lingering presence for over 45 minutes prompted her to call the police and leave for her car to distance herself from his unsettling behavior.

Upon exiting her residence, the woman claimed the man approached her while openly exposing and handling his genitals. In distress, she drove away but returned shortly and contacted 911 after spotting the man still there.

Police encountered Johnson near the complex’s entrance, where the woman confirmed he was the individual she had seen outside her unit.

After being informed of his rights, Johnson allegedly explained that he was merely passing through the complex toward a nearby McDonald’s. When questioned about his exposure, he initially claimed it was for urination. However, he later confessed to exposing himself deliberately, claiming it was not sexually driven but rather an act of being “an a**hole.”

The officer noted that Johnson was not wearing any undergarments. The officer also noted that Johnson’s claim that he was “cutting through” did not seem to be true because he had been outside the victim’s unit for an extended period of time and had looked into the window of at least one residence. The officer also noted that the complex is fenced and located on a dead end, and he was unable to locate any “clear path or cut-through.”

Johnson, who is a designated career offender, has been charged with loitering/prowling and indecent exposure. He has six felony convictions (non-violent) and four misdemeanor convictions (non-violent) and has served two state prison sentences, with his most recent release in 2024. Judge Jonathan Ramsey set bail at $7,500.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
