Man shot, killed by Secret Service, local deputy outside of Mar-a-Lago, agency says

In Palm Beach, Florida, a man was fatally shot by U.S. Secret Service agents and a deputy from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office after breaching the secure perimeter of Mar-a-Lago.

The individual, described as being in his early 20s, gained unauthorized access to the area surrounding the estate.

According to the Secret Service, the man, whose name has not been released pending family notification, was spotted near the north gate carrying what appeared to be a shotgun and a can of fuel.

Law enforcement officials confronted the suspect, leading to an exchange of gunfire that resulted in his death. Fortunately, no law enforcement officers were injured during the incident, and there were no dignitaries present at the time.

President Donald Trump was not on the premises when the event occurred.

The FBI, along with the Secret Service and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, is conducting an investigation into the man’s background, his actions, potential motives, and the appropriateness of the force used.

As part of standard procedure, the Secret Service agents involved have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues.

A news briefing was held at 9:30 a.m. with the U.S. Secret Service, FBI, and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
