Karen Bass trolled during open-top ride through Los Angeles

During the vibrant Lunar New Year festivities in Los Angeles’ Chinatown, Mayor Karen Bass found herself the target of unexpected criticism. As she rode through the streets in a convertible, her presence at the celebrations was intended as a gesture of goodwill and community support.

With a smile and a wave, Mayor Bass extended her greetings to the crowds, wishing them a joyful New Year. “Today is the day we all contribute and show our support for Chinatown,” she declared enthusiastically in a video capturing the event. However, her festive message was soon overshadowed by a confrontation.

A man, identifying himself as a journalist, began to challenge the mayor on several pressing issues. He questioned her about perceived budget cuts and the deteriorating state of the city’s infrastructure, accusing her of “defunding our city.”

As the mayor’s vehicle continued down the parade route, the man loudly encouraged onlookers to express their dissatisfaction. “Make sure you vote against Karen Bass,” he shouted, calling for her departure from office and provoking others to join in a chorus of boos.

“Make sure you vote against Karen Bass,” the man shouted. “We want Karen Bass gone. The year you leave office, Karen.”

He then urged others nearby to join in and “boo” the mayor as her motorcade rolled forward.

In another clip, Bass’s convertible is filmed moving down a mostly empty stretch of road flanked by aides and security, while critics yelled that she was ignoring questions from journalists.

It was not immediately clear whether the man filming was a reporter. At one point, he turned his camera to show sparse crowds lining the street as Bass spoke.

Bass did not directly acknowledge the heckling in the videos. The mayor’s office did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
