Emotions reached a boiling point within an Ohio courtroom on Tuesday when a judge handed down the sentence for a Cincinnati man involved in the fatal shooting of a teenager. The announcement sparked a heated confrontation that quickly escalated into a physical altercation inside the courthouse.

The tension erupted after the sentencing of Latrelle Rogers, aged 20, who was convicted in the death of 17-year-old Edwin “Myzell” Arrington. The situation intensified as family members from both sides exchanged harsh words following the judge’s decision.

Rogers received a prison sentence ranging from 12 to 17½ years after entering a guilty plea to a lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter in Arrington’s death, according to a report by FOX 19.

As Judge Robert Winkler of the Common Pleas Court announced the sentence, a relative of Rogers was heard in a video saying, “Love you” loudly.

The response from Arrington’s family was a shouted obscenity, which ignited a brawl that spilled out of the courtroom and into the surrounding courthouse areas, as reported by the outlet.

“The disturbance was so loud it disturbed proceedings in my courtroom,” Hamilton County Common Pleas Court Judge Christopher McDowell told FOX 19. “I saw multiple people being arrested and not complying with deputies’ orders.”

McDowell told the outlet he was forced to cancel the rest of the morning’s hearings, as the courthouse was temporarily closed.

Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office confirmed multiple people were cited, but it is unclear if there were any arrests, according to FOX 19.

The shooting happened early Jan. 1, 2024, in Cincinnati’s University Heights neighborhood.

Officers found Arrington dead from multiple gunshot wounds and arrested Rogers more than four months later on May 22, according to the outlet.

Before Rogers’ plea deal, he was indicted on two counts of murder and two counts of felonious assault.
