New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch made it clear on Friday that she will not stand for any assaults on police officers, following comments from Mayor Zohran Mamdani and District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who downplayed an incident where individuals threw icy snowballs at officers as mere pranks.
“When you wear this uniform and uphold those standards, you deserve to be treated with respect,” Tisch emphasized during a ceremony celebrating police promotions.

She further stated, “The majority of New Yorkers have a deep appreciation for you, both as individuals and for the role of policing in general. Don’t let the loudest voices diminish the pride you have in wearing the uniform and protecting this city.”
Tisch assured the officers, “One thing you can count on from me is this: I will hold this department to the highest standards.”
“When those standards are met, I will always fiercely protect you. And as you’ve seen recently, I absolutely will not tolerate any attacks on my cops, period,” she concluded.
