Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed his support for the United States’ efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding international peace and security. Although he didn’t specifically reference the recent military strikes, his stance was clear.
“This is a significant threat to global peace,” Albanese stated. He further reiterated the international community’s united front, asserting that Iran must never be allowed to develop nuclear capabilities.
“Australia stands in solidarity with the courageous people of Iran in their fight against oppression,” he added, underlining his support for those challenging the Iranian regime.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Angus Taylor didn’t mince words, describing Iran’s regime as “authoritarian, antisemitic, and abhorrent.” He accused the regime of aspiring to acquire nuclear weapons, seeking the destruction of Israel, and backing terrorism through proxies such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis.
In a post on X, Taylor also highlighted Iran’s provision of weapons to Russia, aimed at bolstering Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, further illustrating the regime’s contentious international conduct.
“It wants nuclear weapons, seeks the destruction of Israel, has encouraged terrorism through its proxies – Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis – and has supplied weapons to Russia to support Putin’s invasion of Ukraine,” he said in a post on X.
“We pray for the Iranian people at this time.”
