Man arrested after argument allegedly turns deadly at remote NSW campground
Police have arrested a man over the death of another man allegedly killed in an assault at a campground in northern New South Wales.

An unsettling incident unfolded at a campsite off Point Lookout Road in Ebor, approximately 80 kilometres from Armidale, involving a tragic altercation between two men who were camping together with a woman. What began as an argument quickly escalated, resulting in one man suffering critical head injuries.

The exact circumstances surrounding the injuries remain unclear, including whether a weapon was involved in the assault. In a desperate attempt to save his life, the woman at the campsite drove the injured man to Thora, reaching out to friends who subsequently contacted emergency services.

Chris McKinnon confirmed the man who died had received serious injuries, and was dead by the time emergency services arrived.

Tragically, despite their efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries before they were able to reach the car. The incident has left a deep impact on the community, with Superintendent Chris McKinnon expressing the gravity of the situation, stating, “It’s always a terrible thing that someone ends up dead from an altercation like this.”

The woman who was camping with the pair drove the injured man to Thora, calling friends who then alerted emergency services.

However, by the time they reached the car, the man had died.

“It’s always a terrible thing that someone ends up dead from an altercation like this,” Superintendent Chris McKinnon said.

“[He had] significant head injuries.”

Police were initially unable to find the other man involved, but at around 11.30am this morning they arrested a 26-year-old man on Waterfall Way in Ebor.

It is believed he had received a lift to Ebor, but it is not known who drove him there.

The man is known to police, McKinnon confirmed.

He has been taken to Armidale Police Station, but charges have not been laid.

McKinnon confirmed police were currently speaking with the woman who witnessed the alleged assault.
